Attempt to create longest online poem

A few years ago the Cite team showed our softer side by creating an online PR campaign that gave the lingerie company, Mio Destino, a Valentine’s Day boost.

Mio Destino Poem--Online Marketing Campaign

Mio Destino wanted to grab some attention on Valentine’s Day and encourage visits to its e-commerce website, so our online marketing team came up with the idea of attempting to write the world’s longest love poem.  This wasn’t going to be an easy task since according to the Guinness Book of World Records, the longest poem at the time was written by Frenchman Monsieur Patrick Huet and was 7,547 verses long.

We could have written one ourselves…
“How do I love thee? Let me count the ways.
I love thee like a beautifully designed website viewed on the latest version of Firefox”
….for some reason that idea was rejected.

So we came up with a better idea, we asked people to visit the Mio Destino website and add their poetic verses to a continuously growing online poem.  The poem verses could be dedicated to specific people and participants came from all over to participate in this online project.  Not only did this generate interest online, but our attempt was also featured in Russian Vogue!

Unfortunately we haven’t able to beat Monsieur Huet (yet), but the effort succeeded in gaining Mio Destino a lot of attention and website visits.  Although the record eludes us, there’s always next year, until then we’ve still got to find something that rhymes with “you’re as perfect as well-written search engine optimisation”
