Walking #Lamp5k For Mental Health Awareness Week

After months of remote working, it was about time for an in-person get together – especially since we’ve welcomed so many new faces to our teams recently and merged with our friends at Well & Truly.

It was pretty convenient that the COVID-19 rules on gathering changed around the same time as Mental Health Awareness Week. So, what better way to get everyone together than taking part in the #Lamp5k challenge to raise money and awareness for mental health around Leicester?

“When we heard about Lamp’s 5K initiative to support Mental Health Awareness week, we jumped at the opportunity to take part! By coordinating our own 5K with Lockdown restrictions being eased, it was the perfect chance to meet up with colleagues after such a long time – in the safety of an outdoor setting. Importantly, it also brought home to many of us just how difficult isolation has been, and the importance not just of socialising with other people, but getting outside and enjoying some fresh air. and taking care of our mental health”

Dafydd Prichard, Director of Cite

LAMP, Leicestershire Action for Mental Health Project, is an independent charity founded in 1989. They provide useful and essential mental health support for people living around the Leicestershire and Rutland area. Interested in fundraising for LAMP yourself? Find out more here.

The weather held up nicely and we all thoroughly enjoyed our scenic walk through various parts of Leicester, including down by the canals. Our team talk about how the day went below!

“It was great to see the whole Cite team in the flesh after spending so long interacting with everyone through a screen. Taking a walk through our beautiful, historic city in the sunshine and catching up with Cite veterans and new faces alike was an absolute joy. It was all the more satisfying to know that not only were we boosting our own moods but we were also helping support LAMP in helping people across the country who are struggling with their own mental health. After such a tumultuous year and a half for so many people, being able to support causes like LAMP who do such vital work is extremely fulfilling. And to do it in such an enjoyable way, even more so!”

Tom, Senior Designer

“So nice to be able to get together as a company and do something a) physical b) outdoors and c) for such a great and worthy charity! What a fantastic day.”

Rachel, Account Director

“It was really nice getting out and seeing the team, and even better that it was for a good cause”

Ahmed, Designer

“It was great to see team members after so long, and for such a great cause. I’ve worked in the city for 15 years but never taken in some of the sights we saw on our route – like the Castle Gardens. Oh, and great food at Grays!”

Paul, Technical Director

“It was good to finally meet (pretty much) all the rest of the Cite team in person at last and showcase a great cause.”

James Watson, Account Manager

“So good to see colleagues in person for the first time in over a year, and a good opportunity to raise awareness of a local charity. The beer and sandwiches weren’t to be sniffed at either.”

Simon, Operations Director

“It was really good to see everyone after a long time working from home, and I liked Daf’s route around a bit of Leicester I hadn’t really seen before.”

James, Senior Developer

“The LAMP walk was brilliant, providing me with an opportunity to see Leicester in a new light, all framed by a beautiful sunny day. I’d like to do the event and support LAMP again!”

Nevil, Digital Marketer

“After the heavy downpours earlier in the day, we all had our brollies ready but the walk was lovely and thankfully the sun was shining! It was great to see familiar faces again and catch up after 14 months or so!”

Ravi, Senior Account Manager

“The walk was great. A pleasant, leisurely stroll out in the fresh air, and it didn’t even rain! It was also nice to meet up with the team for the first time in ages – seeing some old (and new) faces in real life instead of just on video call”

Mateen, Senior Designer

We’re already looking forward to the next big charity event!
