PayPal alternatives for E-commerce sites

According to CNN and Fortune magazine, eBay (EBAY, Fortune 500) intends to implement a controversial new policy that will entail holding payments sent through PayPal for up to 21 days for certain “high-risk transactions.” As e-commerce developers, this was interesting news as it signifies the growing strength of PayPal in online transactions.

Cite have implemented PayPal payment options for a number of websites including Italian Heaven, the Calabria investment property specialists. This solution works very well for the Leicestershire based company, however for clients with larger scale e-commerce requirements, such as Mio Destino, The Retreat Company and Husky, we have recommended ProtX, the Sage-owned, London based Payment Gateway Provider. In our estimate, ProtX provide extremely competitive rates and an excellent support service.

So while eBay’s decision to use PayPal does influence many e-commerce sites to do the same, there are several other, equally reliable payment solutions that may be better suited. E-commerce sites should really speak to their web developers before making a decision on what system to use.
