Facebook features you may not know about

Facebook is always updating itself with new and improved features and after a point even the most experienced social media junkie begins to lose track of them all. Our Facebook app developers have been hard at work uncovering four Facebook features that you may not know about. Here’s what they do and how you can find them…

4 Facebook features you may not know about

1. Group chat
The Facebook chat feature is a useful way to have a conversation with a friend, but did you know you can have group chats too? Users can add additional Facebook friends into a conversation that is already taking place by simply following these directions:

1. Open a chat window with a friend and click the gear menu in the top right corner.

2. Select the “Add Friends to Chat…” option from the dropdown menu.

3. Enter the names of the friends you want to add and then click “Done.”

2. Other Messages
Facebook messages is one of the most commonly used features on the social network, but few people actually realise there is more than one folder for their messages. In addition to your Inbox, there is a folder called “Other” where messages get filtered to if they are from people that are not directly connected to you. A lot of people don’t realise that they have a second mailbox and their messages never get read, or when they do it’s months later. To help control what messages get sent to your “Other” folder you can adjust your settings by following the steps below:

1. First, click on the messages icon on the far left-hand side of your homepage

2. This will take you directly to your Inbox. To the right of the word “Inbox” you’ll see a tab for “Other.” Select this to view your messages.

3. To edit your message settings, click ‘Edit Preferences’ in the left-hand column, just below your Inbox and Other tabs.

4. A pop up will appear providing you with two options, Basic Filtering and Strict Filtering. Here you will be able to see which setting you are on and also select the one you want.

3. Upload photos in comments
You may or may not have realised it but Facebook now allows you to include photos within any comments you make, whether it’s on a photo, a friend’s wall or even somebody’s status. You can add images by selecting the camera icon on the far right of the comment bar and adding image file. Using images can help you make your point and have your comment stand out from everyone else’s.

4. Sign in with your Username
Here’s a time saving tip: Did you know you can sign into Facebook using your unique URL username? That’s the bit you can find at the end of your URL when you are on your profile page. So for example, if your profile address was facebook.com/jonsmith451, you could sign in with “jonsmith451”. It’s a useful trick to keep in mind when you are using a public computer so your email address doesn’t get stored, or when you are using a mobile phone because it’s faster than typing in your email address. Once you sign in, it will take you straight to your profile page as opposed to your newsfeed.
